Seminar of the SofTIS Department

We kindly invite you to the seminar of the Software Technologies and Information Systems Dept. at IMI-BAS, which will take place on April 28, Tuesday, at 2:00 p.m. in Hall 278 at IMI-Sofia and online. Our guest lecturer Desislava Vasileva will present a research overview on Adaptive Educational Software and Game-Based Learning. She will talk on adaptive educational software and game-based learning, covering three interconnected research lines. The first concerns adaptive hypermedia and e-learning systems, including formal learner modeling and a platform for adaptive content delivery. The second focuses on game-based learning and player modeling — playing style classification from behavioral data, physiological affect detection via galvanic skin response, and a platform for automated generation of adaptive 3D educational games. The third extends this work to [...]

Seminar of the SofTIS Department

You are welcome to join the Scientific seminar of the Dept. Software Technologies and Information Systems on 31st March 2026, Tuesday, from 14.00 (UTC+02). The seminar will be in hybrid format: in 278 hall in the building of IMI-BAS and via ZOOM.  Assist.  Ventsislav Polimenov will give a talk, entitled: "ANNSIA - Adaptive Neural Network for Satellite Image Analysis". The talk will show an innovative approach to leaf area index estimation using a multi-sensor deep neural network that combines Sentinel-2 and Landsat 8/9 data. The study addresses two primary challenges, namely the absence of in-situ data for training and the substantial differences in spatial and spectral characteristics between the sensors. The model employs a Multi-Sensor U-Net with Conditional Batch Normalisation, enabling unified processing of heterogeneous [...]

Mathemaical Foundations of Informatics Seminar in Veliko Tarnovo

A meeting of the Seminar on Mathematical Foundations of Informatics will be held in Veliko Tarnovo on May 16, 2024, at 4:15 pm, in Room 502 of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, Veliko Tarnovo University. A talk on Lee distance in analyzing and modeling rank data will be delivered by Nikolay I. Ivanov, IMI - BAS. Abstract: Distances on permutations are commonly used in rank data analysis and are an efficient tool for constructing probability models for rankings. In this talk, we consider some probabilistic applications of the Lee distance, which was originally developed as a generalization of the Hamming distance for error correction coding in modulation. In particular, we study the “K-means” clustering procedure based on Lee distance and approximate the normalizing [...]

Mathemaical Foundations of Informatics Seminar in Veliko Tarnovo

A meeting of the Seminar on Mathematical Foundations of Informatics will be held in Veliko Tarnovo on March 18, 2024, at 4:30 pm, in Room 401 of Building 4 of the Veliko Tarnovo University. A talk on LCD Codes over Mixed Alphabets will be delivered by Maryam Bajalan, IMI - BAS. Abstract: In this presentation, we describe the structural properties of (Galois) linear complementary dual codes over mixed alphabets arising from finite chain rings. Our focus centres on providing a comprehensive characterization, outlining the conditions under which a given code falls into this category and it is Galois invariant. This leads to the study of the Gray image of FpFp[θ]-linear codes, where p ∈ {2,3} and θ ≠ θ2 = 0 , that provides Fp-linear [...]

Mathemaical Foundations of Informatics Seminar in Veliko Tarnovo

A meeting of the Seminar on Mathematical Foundations of Informatics will be held in Veliko Tarnovo on January 17, 2024, at 4 pm, in Room 502 of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of the Veliko Tarnovo University. A talk on Build your own digital device, even a multicore and multithreaded  icrocontroller with FPGA will be delivered by Dushan Bikov, Gotse Delchev University in Stip. Abstract: The use of Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) plays an essential role in providing flexibility for digital design. We then delve into practical insights on utilizing and constructing Intellectual Property (IP) cores within the FPGA framework. In addition to this, a new type of multithreaded and multicore microcontroller will be presented. The aim is to provide more computing power [...]

Seminar of the Information Modeling Department

The next meeting of the seminar of the Information Modeling Department will be held on June 25, 2023, at 2:00 pm, in Room 578 of IMI. The following talks will be delivered: 1. Public inaugural lecture by Assoc. Prof. Ivan Radoslavov Georgiev: An Optimization Model for Production Scheduling Taking into Account Preventive Maintenance in an Uncertainty-Based Manufacturing System 2. Lecture by Asen Toshev on: Influence of the Balkan haplogroups in Europe Abstract. Examining the haplogroups from Eupedia [1] we conclude that two haplogroups are characteristic of the Balkans: I2*/I2a and E1b1b.The main goal of this paper is through the Balkan haplogroups to investigate the Balkan influence on countries outside the Balkans, i.e."Balkan" connections with peoples outside the Balkans, possibly migrations from the Balkans to other European [...]

Joint seminar of the ICMS and the MFI Department

A joint seminar of the International Center for Mathematical Sciences and the Department of Mathematical Foundations of Informatics will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 2:00 pm, in Room 403 of IMI - BAS. Speaker: Dr. Alexandr Polyanskii, IMI - BAS. Title: Plank Problems: Discrete Geometry and Convexity Abstract: The set of points lying between two parallel lines in the plane is called a plank. Given a convex region C in the plane, what is the smallest combined width of a finite collection of planks that cover C? What happens in higher dimensions? In the 50s, Thoger Bang answered this innocent question of Alfred Tarski and opened a box with many deceptively simple-looking problems. In my talk, I will overview progress in the [...]
