Eighth International Conference Digital Presentation and Preservation of Cultural and Scientific Heritage – DiPP2018
From September 27th to 29th, 2018 in Burgas, Bulgaria, the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, under the patronage of UNESCO and Burgas District Administration and with the support of the National Science Fund (Contract No. ДПМНФ 01/22 27.08.2018), organizes the Eighth International Conference on Digital Presentation and Preservation of Cultural and Scientific Heritage—DiPP2018, The conference is an event from 2018 European year of cultural heritage, supported by the European commission.
Co-organisers of the event are the Regional Academic Center – Burgas, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Regional Historical Museum – Burgas, the Burgas Free University, Index Ltd, Institute for Computer Science and Control, Hungarian Academy of Sciences. (more…)
All Bulgarian Participants at the 22nd JBOM Are Returning with Medals
Two gold and four silver medals won the young Bulgarian mathematicians during the twenty-second edition of the JBMO. It takes place every year and students at the age of not more than 15.5 can take part in this competition. JBMO has one competition day of 4,5 hours and the participants solve 4 problems from the areas of algebra, geometry, number theory, combinatorics. Each problem is scored with 10 points. The maximum possible score is 40 points. Here are the results of Bulgarian students:
- Borislav Kirilov (8th grade, First Private Math School, Sofia): 10+10+6+10=36: gold medal.
- Desislava Nikolova (8th grade, Sofia Math High School): 10+10+6+10=36: gold medal.
- Martin Kopchev (8th grade, High School of Math and Science, Gabrovo): 10+10+1+10=31: silver medal.
- Milko Bakalov (8th grade, Sofia Math High School): 8+10+6+7=31: silver medal.
- Valeri Vamkov (8th grade, Sofia Math School): 9+7+0+6=22: silver medal.
- Andon Todorov (8th grade, Sofia Math High School): 10+10+0+1=21: silver medal.

Successful completion of the Career Development Forum at FMI
The Career Development Forum, which took place on June 5 and 6, 2018, in the courtyard of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, was attended by highly interested students. 68 organizations – IT companies, research and educational institutions and employers from leading national companies presented their work to the students of FMI and to all other interested parties. The event was organized by the FMI’s Career Center, and the main sponsor was SAP Labs Bulgaria. IMI presented its work at a special booth in the Faculty’s foyer, where the students were informed about the internships and PhD programs offered by IMI, they had the opportunity to meet in person with scientists from the various research divisions in the Institute and discussed the opportunities that IMI offers for the development of their academic potential. The Institute of Mathematics and Informatics will Participate in the Career Development Forum at FMI
Career Development Forum in the courtyard of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” will be held once again on June 5 and 6, 2018, under the motto “I know it and want to prove it”. The event was organized by the FMI’s Career Center, and the main sponsor is SAP Labs Bulgaria. CompueterWorld and Careers are media partners. IMI will present its work at a special booth in the Faculty’s lobby, where everyone will be able to learn more about the offered internships, PhD programs and priority research fields, as well as to meet in person with researchers from the Institute. The Bulgarian Delegation at Intel ISEF Returned with Three Prizes
Intel ISEF is the world’s largest student science competition. Zvezdin Bessarabov and Chavdar Lalov competed with 1,700 participants from 81 countries in Pittsburgh for a prize pool of over US$ 4 million. The Bulgarian participants won two special awards and one prize of the main jury. This is the first year in which the entire Bulgarian team won Intel ISEF awards and is also one of the most successful years for our country. Bulgaria has been participating in Intel ISEF since 2013, the participation being funded by the Club Young Scientists with the support of Intel and the Society for Science and the Public. More than two thirds of our participants up to now have participated in the events of HSSIMI (УчИМИ) and other initiatives of IMI-BAS and SMB. (more…)
