This year’s winner of “Rose and Irving Saff” Award is Emiliyan Rogachev, student at Sofia University

The Commission to determine the winner of the Rose and Irving Saf Award for 2018 unanimously selected Emilian Rogachev, student at Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Sofia University (FMI).

Award in mathematics Rose and Irving Saff was founded by prof. Edward Saff from Vanderbilt University, Tennessee, USA, in memory of his parents. It is awarded each year to a student in mathematics for high achievements and excellence in mathematics. Prof. Saff is a foreign member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

Since October 2016, Emilian Rogachev is a teaching assistant at FMI and leads courses in Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, Design and Analysis of Algorithms; Discrete Mathematics; Calculus 2; Calculus 1.

Participant and medalist in a great variety of national and international mathematical competitions, tournaments and Olympiads. Since 2015 he has won gold medals from the National Mathematics Olympiad for Students for five consecutive years. Silver medalist from the Balkan Mathematics Olympiad in 2015, a bronze medalist from the Zhautykov International Mathematical Olympiad and Romanian Masters of Mathematics.

This year the Commission for determining the winner of the Prize was composed of Academician Vesselin Drensky – Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Prof. Peter Boyvalenkov – Deputy Director of IMI, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Parvan Parvanov – Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and Assoc. Prof. Maya Stoyanova – Deputy Dean of FMI.

Mathematics Days in Sofia – MDS 2020

The conference is organized by the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in collaboration with the Union of the Bulgarian Mathematicians and the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of Sofia University.

One of the main goals of the conference Mathematics Days in Sofia (MDS) is to bring together Bulgarian mathematicians and computer scientists working all over the world. In this way, the event will enrich the relations between the mathematicians working in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian mathematical diaspora.

The first edition of MDS was held in 2014 at the initiative of a number of prominent Bulgarian mathematicians working in Bulgaria and abroad and attended by more than 300 participants from all over the world. The second conference was organized in 2017 thus making MDS a traditional meeting of Bulgarian mathematicians working in Bulgaria and abroad with their colleagues from prestigious scientific centers all over the world.

The purpose of this event is to present the latest scientific achievements in the field of Mathematics and Informatics.

DiPP 2019: Ninth International Conference Digital Presentation and Preservation of Cultural and Scientific Heritage

From September 26th to 28th, 2019 in Burgas, Bulgaria, the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, under the patronage of UNESCO and Burgas Municipality and with the support of the National Science Fund, organizes the Ninth International Conference on Digital Presentation and Preservation of Cultural and Scientific Heritage—DiPP2019.

Co-organisers of the event are: the Regional Academic Center – Burgas, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences; the Regional Historical Museum – Burgas; the Burgas Free University; Index Ltd.

The prestigious scientific event will be opened on September 26, 2019 at 11:30, in Expo Center “Flora”, Burgas, Bulgaria.

The conference aims at presenting innovative results, research projects and applications in the field of digitisation, documentation, archiving, representation and preservation of global and national tangible and intangible cultural and scientific heritage. The focus is to provide open access to digitised cultural heritage and to set up sustainable policies for its continuous digital preservation and conservation.

The priority area is the digital presentation and preservation of cultural and historical objects under conditions of risk. The forum will demonstrate innovative technologies and prototypes, including digital repositories, digital archives, virtual museums and digital libraries, which result from established practices and achievements in the field. Representatives of public and specialised libraries, museums, galleries, archives, centres, both national and foreign research institutions and universities are invited to participate and exchange experiences, ideas, knowledge and best practices in the field. IMI Mathematics Prize for the year 2020

The Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (IMI) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences opens a call for nominations for the IMI Mathematics Prize for the year 2020 for excellent achievements in Mathematics.

The candidates must be Bulgarian citizens and must not have turned 40 on January 1, 2020.

The deadline for nominations is January 15, 2020. Nominations are sent (electronically) to the Chairman of the Prize Committee.

Official awarding of Bulgarian winners in the Australian Mathematics Competition for 2017 and 2018

On 28 January in the Conference Hall of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on a solemn ceremony will be awarded Bulgarian winners in the Australian Mathematics Competition for 2017 and 2018. The ceremony starts at 15:30.

Prizes will be awarded personally by Her Excellency Kate Logan, Ambassador of Australia to Greece, Bulgaria and Romania. The event will be attended by the Honorary Consul of Australia in Bulgaria – Mrs. Indiana Trifonova.

Australian Mathematics Competition is a competition for students from 3rd to 12th grade. It was established in 1976 and is one of the largest of its kind in the world – every year in AMC participate more than half a million students from 38 countries. Since 1994 Bulgaria has always medalists in this competition.
