14 March – the International Day of Mathematics

The International Day of Mathematics (IDM) is a worldwide celebration. Each year on March 14 all countries will be invited to participate through activities for both students and the general public in schools, museums, libraries, and other spaces. March 14 was chosen as the date for the IDM because it was already celebrated in many countries as Pi Day, based on the fact that some countries write it as 3/14 and the mathematical constant π is approximately 3.14. The IDM celebration expands Pi Day to include the whole spectrum of mathematics. International Center for Mathematical Sciences – Sofia at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics organizes educational workshop on Hodge Theory and Local Systems

In the period March 3-5, 2020, the newly established International Center for Mathematical Sciences - Sofia (ICMS-Sofia) and the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences are organizing a series of lectures on Hodge theory and local systems. This year’s winner of “Rose and Irving Saff” Award is Emiliyan Rogachev, student at Sofia University

The Commission to determine the winner of the Rose and Irving Saf Award for 2018 unanimously selected Emilian Rogachev, student at Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Sofia University (FMI). Award in mathematics Rose and Irving Saff was founded by prof. Edward Saff from Vanderbilt University, Tennessee, USA, in memory of his parents. It is awarded each year to a student in mathematics for high achievements and excellence in mathematics. Mathematics Days in Sofia – MDS 2020

The conference is organized by the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in collaboration with the Union of the Bulgarian Mathematicians and the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of Sofia University. One of the main goals of the conference Mathematics Days in Sofia (MDS) is to bring together Bulgarian mathematicians and computer scientists working all over the world. IMI Mathematics Prize for the year 2020

The Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (IMI) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences opens a call for nominations for the IMI Mathematics Prize for the year 2020 for excellent achievements in Mathematics. The candidates must be Bulgarian citizens and must not have turned 40 on January 1, 2020. The deadline for nominations is January 15, 2020. Official awarding of Bulgarian winners in the Australian Mathematics Competition for 2017 and 2018

On 28 January in the Conference Hall of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on a solemn ceremony will be awarded Bulgarian winners in the Australian Mathematics Competition for 2017 and 2018. The ceremony starts at 15:30. Prizes will be awarded personally by Her Excellency Kate Logan, Ambassador of Australia to Greece, Bulgaria and Romania. Successful completion of the Career Development Forum at FMI

The Career Development Forum, which took place on June 5 and 6, 2018, in the courtyard of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, was attended by highly interested students. 68 organizations – IT companies, research and educational institutions and employers from leading national companies presented their work to the students of FMI and to all other interested parties.
