The International Center for Mathematical Sciences received a three-year grant from Simons Foundation

The good news was announced personally by Prof. Yuri Tschinkel, Director of Mathematics and Physical Sciences division of Simons Foundation, during his visit to Sofia. The Foundation funded a project of the International Center for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS-Sofia) at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics for a period of three years. The funds will be used to organize international scientific forums with the participation of world-renowned and established mathematicians, to open new positions for researchers and to support scientists from Ukraine and other countries.

Second Annual Meeting of Young Bulgarian Mathematicians

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics organize a lecture by Prof. Yuri Tschinkel

On Monday, June 13, 2022, Prof. Yuri Tschinkel will give a lecture entitled Building Scientific Institutes and will share his experience with funding research through private business. The event will take place at the Intercontinental Hotel Sofia at 5:30 pm. Professor Tschinkel is visiting Bulgaria at the invitation of the International Center for Mathematical Sciences of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (IMI-BAS). He is a special guest at the conference Second Annual Meeting of Young Bulgarian Mathematicians, which will be hosted at IMI–BAS from 13 to 14 June 2022. 90th anniversary of the birth of Professor Blagovest Sendov

February 8, 2022, marks the 90th anniversary of the birth of Blagovest Sendov. He passed away on January 19, 2020, shortly before reaching the age of 88. The Institute of Mathematics and Informatics will commemorate the 90th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Sendov with the talk by Edward Saff from Vanderbilt University, USA - Discretizing Manifolds with Minimal Energy. A talk in commemoration of B. Sendov's 90th birth date.

On 14 January we celebrate World Logic Day

World Logic Day was celebrated for the first time on January 14, 2019. The date chosen, 14 January, corresponds to the date of death of Kurt Gödel and the date of birth of Alfred Tarski, two of the most prominent logicians of the twentieth century. On 26 November 2019, UNESCO proclaimed 14 January to be World Logic Day and included it in its list of International Days. This year, World Logic Day will be celebrated for the fourth time. The event is very popular worldwide. Last year there were 82 scientific events in 40 countries and this year 50 countries have already registered to participate.

Second International Conference Women in Mathematics in South-Eastern Europe

The initiative Women in Mathematics of South-Eastern Europe, aiming at promoting the role of female mathematicians, started in Dec 2020, when the inaugural conference took place. The main goal of this initiative is to celebrate women in mathematics, disseminate new results and create new long-term collaborations among scientists in South-Eastern Europe.
