Institute of Mathematics and Informatics announces a temporary postdoctoral position

The Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IMI-BAS) announces a temporary postdoctoral position, funded by the Bulgarian Scientific Programme “Enhancing the Research Capacity in Mathematical Sciences” (PIKOM). The duration of the position is 12 months, extendable for up to 24 months under the programme. Starting date is September 1, 2023, the earliest, but is flexible. The working language is English or Bulgarian. The following research topics are available, although excellent candidates with a strong track record are also invited to submit their own: Deep learning on networks Stochastic processes, special functions, exponential functionals Modelling of quality in service systems Conceptual, informatical and mathematical models of socio-cyber-physical systems (SCPS) Birational Geometry Codes and designs in polynomials metric spaces Discrete [...]

Vesselin Dimitrov is the laureate of the 2023 IMI Mathematics Prize

The IMI award for 2023 was presented to Dr. Vesselin Dimitrov on July 10, 2023, during the opening of the International Conference "Mathematics Days in Sofia 2023". The prize was presented by Prof. Julian Revalski, President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Chairman of the Prize Committee, and was personally delivered by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev.

The International Conference Mathematics Days in Sofia welcomes more than 200 mathematicians from all over the world

From July 10 to 14, 2023, the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, together with the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and the Union of Bulgarian Mathematicians, will hold the International Conference Mathematics Days in Sofia - MDS2023. More than 200 scientists from 30 countries arrived in Sofia for the traditional meeting of Bulgarian mathematicians.

Prof. Bernard Teissier is visiting the International Center for Mathematical Sciences – Sofia

Prof. Bernard Teissier is a world-renowned mathematician who works in the field of algebraic geometry, singularity theory and commutative algebra. Prof. Teissier is a guest of the program "Increasing research capacity in the field of mathematical sciences" (PIKOM) of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IMI–BAS) and the International Center for Mathematical Sciences - Sofia (ICMS-Sofia).

Prof. Edward Saff presented the certificates to the Rose and Irving Saff Award laureates

In a modest ceremony held at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics yesterday, May 31, Prof. Saff personally presented the certificates to the winners of the Rose and Irwin Saff Award for the past four years. In the past few years, the Award has been awarded, but the ceremony was not held due to the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
