Joint Seminar of the MMNA and MFI Departments

A joint seminar of the departments of Mathematical Modeling and Numerical Analysis and Mathematical Foundations of Informatics will be held on January 5th, 2023 (Thursday), at 3:00 pm in Room 403 of IMI - BAS. A talk on  Universal extrema of potentials of certain classes of spherical designs will be delivered by Prof. Sergiy Borodachov, Towson University. Abstract: We will discuss known results and our work on locations of absolute minima and maxima of the total potential of N points located on a higher-dimensional sphere that form a spherical design of the highest (in some sense) strength. The potential is a completely monotone function of the Euclidean distance squared. These results apply to a quite extensive list of particular spherical configurations. For power-law potentials [...]

Seminar of the Department of Mathematical Foundations of Informatics

The Department of Mathematical Foundations of Informatics is organizing a seminar under the project „Strategies for improving the quality of models identified by machine learning algorithms with application in quantum tomography“. A talk will be delivered by Violeta Ivanova-Rohling and Niklas  Rohling on: Quantum state tomography as a numerical optimization problem Abstract: We present a framework that formulates the quest for the most efficient quantum state tomography scheme as an optimization problem which can be solved numerically. This approach can be applied to a broad spectrum of relevant setups including measurements restricted to a subsystem. To illustrate the power of this method we present results for the six-dimensional Hilbert space constituted by a qubit-qutrit system, which could be realized e.g. by the N-14 nuclear [...]

Seminar on Algebraic and Geometric Data Protection Methods

The Department of MATHEMATICAL FOUNDATIONS OF INFORMATICS is organizing a seminar under the project Algebraic and Geometric Data Protection Methods, KП-06-Н32/2-2019. Talks will be delivered by: Pascal Piperkov, PhD student, IMI - BAS on: Applications of Discrete Transformations for Calculating the Parameters of a Linear Code over compound finite field Lyubomir Borisov, IMI - BAS on: An efficient algorithm for computing the parity of order of elliptic curves over Fp Abstract: In cryptographic applications it is desirable to employ elliptic curves of very large prime order to keep the security on a highest possible level. There is an efficient algorithm which computes the order of a given elliptic curve of general type [1]. To our knowledge the complexity of that algorithm is O(log8 q) [...]
