The next Information Modelling seminar will be held on July 7, 2021 (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. (UTC +3) in the Conference Room of IMI-BAS and online in Zoom.

Assoc. Prof. Venelin Todorov will deliver an inaugural lecture on

Advanced stochastic approaches for modelling of large scale complex systems

Abstract:

Many scientific and engineering applications are based on the problems of solving multidimensional integrals, integral equations and systems of linear algebraic equations. The computational time for very large-scale problems or for finding solutions in real-time, can be limited and this restricts the usage of many established algorithms. Monte Carlo algorithms give statistical estimates of the required solution, by performing random sampling of a random variable, which mathematical expectation is the desired solution. Advanced highly efficient Monte Carlo methods for solving multidimensional integrals, integral equations and linear systems will be presented, and a comparison with existing approaches will be done. Various applications related to environmental safety, artificial intelligence, finance, as well as sensitivity analysis of a model of long-range transport of pollutants in the air, which are important for sustainable agriculture and the bio-economy, will be given.

A discussion on the topic will be held at 3 p.m. in the Conference Room of IMI-BAS.
