Abstract. Matrix models that originate in non-commutative deformations of Membranes result in models related to dimensional reductions of higher dimensional Yang-Mills theories. The confining/deconfining transition becomes a Hagedorn transition in this setting and the models are believed to have gravitational duals. I will discuss recent progress in understanding these models and their physics.
