Поредната сбирка на Националния семинар по стохастика ще се проведе на 6 февруари 2019 г. (сряда) от 14:00 часа в зала 403 на ИМИ – БАН. Доклад на тема "Mathematics in carcinogenesis: mistakes and their consequences" ще изнесе Mariia Beliaeva. Резюме: With the arrival of evidence-based medicine mathematics is becoming closer to medical research, making the latter’s findings more science-based. However, some physicians develop mathematical models on their own, without any mathematical assistance and expertise. Sometimes the well-known conclusions of those amateurish theories mean nothing as they contain elementary mathematical mistakes, which nobody detects and corrects. Поредната сбирка на Националния семинар по стохастика ще се проведе на 7 ноември 2018 г. (сряда) от 14:00 в зала 403 на ИМИ-БАН. Доклад на тема "Asymptotic properties of Lee distance" ще изнесе Николай И. Николов (ИМИ-БАН). Резюме: Distances on permutations are often convenient tools for analyzing and modeling rank data. They capture the main feature of the data and provide a basis for further investigation. In this talk, some statistical properties of the Lee distance are studied.  Asymptotic results for the random variable induced by Lee distance are derived and used to compare the Distance-based probability model and the Marginals model for complete rankings. Поредната сбирка на Националния семинар по стохастика ще се проведе на 19 януари 2018 г. от 14:00 в зала 403 на ИМИ-БАН с доклад на Жана Кунчева (Imperial College London, UK) на тема: Multi-scale Community Detection in Temporal Networks Using Spectral Graph Wavelets Резюме: Spectral graph wavelets introduce a notion of scale in networks, and are thus used to obtain a local view of the network from each node. By carefully constructing a wavelet filter function for these wavelets, a multi-scale community detection method for monoplex networks has already been developed. This construction takes advantage of the partitioning properties of the network Laplacian.
