  • ICMS Seminar

Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, BAS Akad.G.Bonchev St, bl. 8, 1113, Sofia, Bulgaria

Date, time and place: вторник, 14 юли 2026 г., 13:00, зала 403, ИМИ-БАН. Speaker: Zhongkai Mi (Shanghai Center for Mathematical Sciences) Title: The Lowest Discriminant Ideals of Cayley-Hamilton Hopf Algebras Abstract: Important families of noncommutative algebras turn out to be Cayley-Hamilton Hopf algebras including finitely generated group algebras with large center and quantum groups at roots of unity. Discriminants and discriminant ideals are important invariants that are related to automorphisms and representations of noncommutative algebras. We study the zero set of the lowest discriminant ideal of Cayley-Hamilton Hopf algebras using the tensor categorical structure of their representations. This is joint work with Yimin Huang, Tiancheng Qi, Quanshui Wu and Milen Yakimov. • Mathematical Foundations of Informatics Seminar

Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, BAS Akad.G.Bonchev St, bl. 8, 1113, Sofia, Bulgaria

The next meeting of the Mathematical Foundations of Informatics seminar will be held on September 17, 2026, at 11 a.m. in Room 503 of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics. A talk on: 2-factor Hamiltonian graphs and their applications will be delivered by Prof. Domenico Labbate, University of Basilicata, Italy. Abstract. A graph is 2-factor Hamiltonian if every spanning 2-regular subgraph is a Hamilton cycle. This talk presents the main results on 2-factor Hamiltonian graphs, focusing on the cubic bipartite case and its equivalence with minimally 1-factorable graphs. We discuss the star-product construction and the still-open conjecture of Funk, Jackson, Labbate and Sheehan, which predicts that all such graphs arise from (K_{3,3}) and the Heawood graph through repeated star products. Finally, we outline applications of 2-factors, [...]

Abstract: PD-1 is a cell surface receptor on T cells and B cells that has a role in regulating the body's immune response by promoting self-tolerance. The PD-L1 protein on human cells acts as an immune checkpoint, or a „brake“ that prevents T cells from attacking normal cells by binding to PD-1. Cancer cells, however, express high amounts of PD-L1 in [...]

  • ICMS Seminar Jointly with the Singularities Seminar

Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, BAS Akad.G.Bonchev St, bl. 8, 1113, Sofia, Bulgaria

Date, time and place: Tuesday, October 13, 2026, 1:00 pm, Room 403, IMI - BAS. Speaker: Pablo Portilla Cuadrado, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid Title: Lê’s conjecture and knot cobordisms Abstract: I will present a proof of Lê’s conjecture, in its formulation that every holomorphic map germ (\mathbb{C}^2, 0)\to (\mathbb{C}^3,0) admitting an injective representative has nonzero differential at the origin. The proof first reduces the possible counterexamples to map germs of order 2, 3 or 4. Separate arguments developed using AI exclude each of these three cases. The talk will focus on the first part: the reduction theorem, which combines plane curve singularities, explicit knot cobordisms, and bounds for the Seifert genus coming from the Y invariant in knot Floer homology. I will [...]
