The Chinese remainder theorem states that given coprime integers \(p_1\, …\, p_n\) and integers \(a_1\, …\, a_n\)\, we can always find an integer \(m\) such that \(m \equiv a_i \mbox{ mod } p_i\) for all \(i\). Similarly given distinct numbers \(x_1\,…\, x_n\) and \(y_1\, …\, y_n\) we can find a polynomial \(f\) such that \(f(x_i)=y_i\). These statements are two instances of strong approximation for the affine line (over the integers \(\mathbb{Z}\) and the polynomials \(k[x]\) over a field \(k\)). In this talk we will consider when an analogue of this holds for special subsets of \(\mathbb{Z}\) and \(k[x]\)\, such as squarefree integers or polynomials without simple roots\, and different varieties. We give a precise description for which subsets this holds on a toric variety.

Младен Димитров (Университет на Лил) \nДоклад: P-adic L-functions and the geometry of the Eigencurve \nДопълнителна информация: https://icms.bg/p-adic-l-functions-and-the-geometry-of-the-eigencurve-talk-by-mladen-dimitrov/ \nРезюме. For centuries\, understanding special values of L-functions has been a significant research topic in number theory. Their study has been central to many celebrated pieces of mathematics\, from Dirichlet’s theorem on primes in arithmetic progressions and the class number formula to the Riemann hypothesis and the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer (BSD) conjecture\, two of the famous millennium problems. \nThe BSD conjecture predicts that the Mordell–Weil rank of an elliptic curve is given by the order of vanishing of its L-function the central point. Iwasawa theory\, in turn\, seeks to relate the arithmetic over the p-adic cyclotomic extension with the behavior of a p-adic analytic L-function\, and various recent works on the BSD conjecture rely crucially on such p-adic methods. \nAn amazing feature of the p-adic L-functions is their ability to live in families\, thus their laws are governed by the geometry of p-adic eigenvarieties. In this lecture we will illustrate this philosophy through examples coming from classical modular forms and the Coleman-Mazur eigencurve.

DESCRIPTION:Поредната сбирка на \nНационалния семинар по стохастика\nще се проведе на 3 юли 2024 г. (сряда) от 14:00 часа в зала 503 на ИМИ – БАН. \nДоклад на тема \nControl Problems for Queuing Systems with Moving Servers\nще изнесе \nAsaf Hajiyev (Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences\, Institute of Control systems). \nАбстракт. For queuing systems with moving servers\, the control policy which means delays of a beginning service is introduced. In the capacity of efficiency index of systems is taken a customer’s average waiting time before service. Although it seems that it is a paradoxical idea to delay the beginning of service\, it has been proved that for some systems it gives a gain in a customer’s average waiting time before service. The class of queuing systems for which it is advisable to introduce delays is described. The form of an optimal function minimizing the efficiency index is found. It is shown that if a distance between neighbor services has exponential distribution\, then the gain in a customer’s average waiting time before service equals 10% and independent of parameter of exponential distribution. For uniform distribution such gain equals 3.5% and also independent of parameter of uniform distribution. The criterion to define for which systems the gain is greater are given. Numerical examples demonstrating theoretical results are given. \n\n

Малко след възникването на наномагнетизма\, като самостоятелна подобласт на магнетизма\, стремежът към синтезирането на молекулни магнити с подходящи за приложение в сферата на нанотехнологиите магнитни свойства заема основно място сред изследванията в областта [1-3]. Това поражда необходимостта от по-задълбочено познаване на микроскопичната динамика стояща в основата на магнитните свойства на тези системи. Ето защо прилагането на първопринципни теоретични изследвания\, включващи математични методи като матрица на плътността\, точна диагонализация и квантова теория на пертурбациите\, насочени в това направление се радват на широк интерес през последните две десетилетия [3]. \nНастоящият доклад ще ни запознае с основни стъпки от прилагането на метода на точна диагонализация\, като първопринципен моногоконфигурационен самосъгласуван подход при изследването на системи от молекулни магнити на микроскопично ниво. Пандо Георгиев\, ИМИ-БАН. \nАбстракт:\n\nWe will review some selected methods and algorithms for data analysis:\nA) Latent component analysis – reveals hidden features of composite data. Particularly\, we will describe some\n    Signal Separation Methods:\n\nbased on statistical independence – Independent Component Analysis\nbased on sparsity. – Sparse Component Analysis\nbased on non-negativity – Non-Negative Matrix and Tensor Factorization\n\nB) New approach to multiclass learning problems and applications to some problems in machine learning\, as:\n\nnonlinear least square problems\nsubspace clustering and non-linear skeletons\nreconstruction of several functions from mixed samples\nsupport vector kernel regression (under development)\n\nC) kernel methods for data analysis\nD) tensor decompositions  and tensor networks.\nSome of the above topics are interconnected and subject to intensive development with numerous applications.

DESCRIPTION:На 01.07.2024 г. от 14:00 ч. в стая 578 на ИМИ и онлайн в Zoom\nще се състои поредната сбирка на семинара по\nДиференциални уравнения и математическа физика.\nДоклад на тема \np-Adic Numbers\, Neural Networks\, Deep Learning\, and Statistical Field Theories\nще изнесе Prof. W. A. Zuniga-Galindo from University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. \nАБСТРАКТ \nThe talk aims to glimpse our recent research work on the mathematical foundations of hierarchical neural networks.  I plan to cover the following topics: (1) the non-Archimedean Wilson-Cowan Model; (2) p-adic Cellular Neural Networks; (3) p-Adic Statistical Field Theory and Deep Boltzmann Machines. In the first part of the talk\, I present a hierarchical version of the Wilson-Cowan model\, one of the most relevant models in theoretical neuroscience (see Reference [1]). The second part is dedicated to p-adic cellular neural networks and their applications to image processing (see Reference [2]). Finally\, I plan to present the results of Reference [3] on the connections between deep Boltzmann machines and Euclidean quantum field theories. \nIn deep learning architectures\, the neurons are organized in layers to form a hierarchical structure. These systems comprise several subsystems and are characterized by emergent behavior resulting from nonlinear interactions between subsystems for multiple levels of organization. (сряда) от 14:00 часа в зала 503 на ИМИ – БАН. \nДоклад на тема \nComparison of parameter estimation methods for a Beta-Uniform mixture model\nще изнесе \nНиколай И. Николов (ИМИ-БАН). \nАбстракт. The Benjamini-Hochberg (B-H) method is a procedure for controlling the false discovery rate in the problem of multiple comparisons and is one of the most cited scientific works. In this talk\, a Beta-Uniform mixture is considered for approximating the distribution of the p-values before the B-H adjustment. Expectation-maximization algorithms are derived for finding the maximum-likelihood and the maximum product of spacings estimations of the parameters in the suggested model. In addition\, the method of moments is also applied for estimating the unknown parameters. The bias and mean squared error of the proposed estimation procedures are compared via numerical simulations. The talk is based on a joint work with Dean Palejev (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences\, Sofia University). \n\n

The motion of the bodies is determined by Newton’s second law and Newton’s law of universal gravitation. We are interested in a special case of planar periodic orbits – those that pass through Euler configuration. \nIn this talk a new efficient approach for searching three-body periodic equal-mass collisionless orbits passing through Euler configuration is presented [1]. The approach is based on a symmetry property of the solutions at the half period. Depending on two previously established symmetry types on the shape sphere\, each solution is presented by one or two distinct initial conditions (one or two points in the search domain). A high precision numerical search based on Newton-Raphson method on a relatively coarse search grid for solutions with relatively short scale-invariant periods is conducted. The results of the search clearly demonstrate the efficiency of the approach. More than 12\,000 initial conditions for periodic collisionless orbits (most of which new ones) are found. Николов\, главен асистент в секция ИОВС на ИМИ. \nРезюме: Distances on permutations are commonly used in rank data analysis and are an efficient tool for constructing probability models for rankings. In this talk\, we consider some probabilistic applications of the Lee distance\, which was originally developed as a generalization of the Hamming distance for error correction coding in modulation. In particular\, we study the “K-means” clustering procedure based on Lee distance and approximate the normalizing constant needed for assessing the number of clusters. Furthermore\, several asymptotic properties of the random variable induced by the Lee distance are derived and applied to distance-based models for rank data. By making use of the optimal property of the Mallows model in terms of the Kullback-Leibler divergence\, a generalization based on the Cressie-Read power divergence is proposed. \n

The original definition involves a logarithmic projection of a subvariety of a complex algebraic torus\, which can be interpreted as forgetting the phase\, i.e. the arguments of complex numbers. In group-theoretic terms\, this projection map may be thought of as passing to the quotient by the maximal compact subgroup. Suppose one replaces the algebraic torus with a complex three-dimensional matrix group. In that case\, the analogous projection naturally has a three-dimensional hyperbolic space as its target\, and it still makes sense to consider images\, i.e. hyperbolic amoebas\, of complex algebraic varieties under this map. From classical projective duality\, for any variety \(X\)\, we can define a dual variety \(X∗\) and we call the class of \(X\) the degree of \(X∗\). We examine the limiting behaviour of an order 1 Markov random walk in R2\, i.e. a walk that remembers its previous step. Provided a certain symmetry of the Markovian condition\, under relatively mild conditions we prove convergence to a Brownian motion and bound the rate of convergence. Therefore\, an order 1 Markov condition is insufficient to alter the limiting behaviour of a random walk. \n\n

(петък) от 13:00 часа ще се проведе дистанционно заседание на семинара по „Алгебра и логика”. \nДоклад на тема: \nOn an Aspect of Second Quantum Revolution\nще изнесе \nВалентин Илиев\, ИМИ – БАН. \nАбстракт. The 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to Alain Aspect\, John Clauser\, and Anton Zeilinger for their work in Quantum Theory. Mass media called this event part of second quantum revolution which includes mainly quantum computing and other super-technologies. Here we discuss Alain Aspect’s version of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen thought experiment and show that there exists an internal dependence of the simultaneous measurements made by the two pairs of linear polarizers operated in each leg of the apparatus during this experiment. The corresponding Shannon-Kolmogorov information flow (or\, noise?) linking a polarizer from one leg to a polarizer from the other leg is proportional to the absolute value of this function of dependence. (петък) от 13:00 часа ще се проведе дистанционно заседание на семинара по „Алгебра и логика”. \nДоклад на тема: \nGeneralized Definability of Discrete Time Interval-based Temporal Connectives\nще изнесе \nДимитър Гелев\, ИМИ – БАН. \nАбстракт. In Linear Temporal Logic with past (PLTL)\, expressive completeness implies that any first-order definable connective is also definable in the temporal language based on the Since and Until temporal operators. This is not the case about discrete time interval-based temporal logics with state-based semantics for the propositional variables. In this talk I prove the next best thing about the extension ITLNL of Moszkowski’s discrete time propositional Interval Temporal Logic (ITL) by the neighbourhood modalities: given an interval-based connective # which admits a first-order definition\, a star-free ITLNL defining formula for #(A1\,…\,Am) can be produced that is built from the past\, future and introspective formulas appearing in some separated equivalents of the operands A1\,…\,Am. The proof is based in an interval-based analogue of Gabbay’s separation theorem about PLTL that was previously established about ITLNL by the neighbourhood modalities by me and Moszkowski and have now used to prove the expressive completeness of ITLNL. Omirov (Harbin Institute of Technologies\, Harbin\, China and Romanovskiy Institute of Mathematics\, Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences\, Uzbekistan). \nАбстракт. During the talk it will be shown that under certain condition an arbitrary complex finite-dimensional maximal extension of a nilpotent Lie algebra N is isomorphic to the semidirect sum of N and its maximal torus. A criterion of the completeness for a finite-dimensional solvable Lie algebra is established. DESCRIPTION:Следващата сбирка на Семинара по геометрия на МЦМН\nще се проведе в сряда\, 20 март 2024 г. от 16:00 ч. в зала 403: \nДоклад на тема \nEllipsoid superpotentials: obstructing symplectic embeddings by singular algebraic curves\n\nще изнесе Григори Михалкин\, Женевски университет. \n\n\nAbstract: How singular can be a local branch of a plane algebraic curve of a given degree d? A remarkable series of real algebraic curves was constructed by Stepan Orevkov. It is based on even-indexed numbers in the Fibonacci series: a degree 5 curve with a 13/2 cusp\, a degree 13 curve with a 34/5-cusp\, and so on. We discuss this and other series of algebraic curves in the context of the problem of symplectic packing of an ellipsoid into a ball\, with the answer given by the spectacular Fibonacci staircase of McDuff and Schlenk. The aspect ratio a>1 of the ellipsoid can be viewed as a real parameter for a certain enumerative superpotential function\, which is mostly locally constant\, but jumps at certain specific rational values (responsible for the aspects of cusp singularities).
