It is defined by a contour integral of the appropriate ratio of gamma products (sometimes reducible to the inverse Mellin transform). Replacing the Euler gamma function by the Barnes double gamma function in this contour integral\, we introduce a new family of special functions which we call Mellin-Barnes’ K function. It is a quite general family which contains Meijer’s G function (thus also all classical hypergeometric functions pFq)\, as well as several new functions that appeared recently in the study of random processes and the fractional fenomena. For example\, the running supremum of an alpha-stable Levy process has density expressible by K function as well as does the exponential functionals of the hypergeometric process. In the talk\, we will discuss the definition of the new function\, its basic analytic and transformation properties and relations to the functions found in the literature. We further define a generalization of the Kilbas-Saigo function introduced earlier to solve in closed form certain classes of integral and differential equations of fractional order and observe that both the original and the generalized Kilbas-Saigo functions are special cases of our new function. \nThe talk is based on a joint work with Alexey Kuznetsov (York University\, Toronto\, Canada). \n

At a technical level\, the probes are described by extremizing the DBI action and solving the Lagrange–Euler equations of motion. I will report on applications of artificial neural networks that allow direct minimization of the regularized DBI action (interpreted as a free energy) without the need to derive and solve the equations of motion. DESCRIPTION:На 15 юли 2025 г. от 13:00 часа в зала 403 на ИМИ-БАН ще се проведе съвместно заседание на Общия семинар на секция “Анализ\, геометрия и топология” и Международния център по математически науки (ICMS-Sofia). \nДоклад на тема: \nWeak Metric Structures on Generalized Riemannian Manifolds\nще изнесе Milan Zlatanovic\, University of Niš\, Serbia. \nРезюме. Linear connections with torsion are important in the study of generalized Riemannian manifolds (\(M\)\, \(G=g+F\))\, where the symmetric part \(g\) of \(G\) is a non-degenerate (0\,2)-tensor and \(F\) is the skew-symmetric part. Some space-time models in theoretical physics are based on \((M\, G=g+F)\)\, where \(F\) is defined using a complex structure. In the lecture\, we will show more general models\, where \(F\) has constant rank and is based on weak metric structures (introduced by the V. Rovenski and R. Wolak)\, which generalize almost contact and \(f\)-contact structures. We consider metric connections (i.e.\, preserving \(G\)) with totally skew-symmetric torsion tensor. For \(\mbox{rank}(F)= \mbox{dim} M\) and non-conformal tensor \(A^2\)\, where \(A\) is a skew-symmetric (1\,1)-tensor adjoint to \(F\)\, we apply weak almost Hermitian structures to fundamental results (by S. Ivanov and M. Zlatanovic) on generalized Riemannian manifolds and prove that the manifold is a weighted product of several nearly Kahler manifolds corresponding to eigen-distributions of \(A^2\). First of all\, we will discuss sufficient and equivalent conditions for a quaternionic Gauduchon metric to exist.  Afterwards\, we will show that strong HKT and balanced hyperHermitian metrics cannot coexist on a compact non-hyperKähler manifold\, proving a particular instance of the Fino-Vezzoni conjecture. In this talk\, after a brief overview of the basic definitions in hypercomplex Geometry\, we will discuss two of the main types of special metrics in the hypercomplex setting: quaternionic Gauduchon and strong HKT metrics. Марк Айуън\nще изнесе доклад на тема: \nSparse Spectral Methods for Solving High-Dimensional and Multiscale Elliptic PDEs\nПроф. Айуън работи в департамента по изчислителна математика в Michigan State University и има широки интереси свързани с обработката на данни и обработката на сигнали. Темата\, която предложи за семинара има някои неочаквани връзки с определени шумозащитни кодове.\nРезюме. In his monograph “Chebyshev and Fourier Spectral Methods”\, John Boyd claimed that\, regarding Fourier spectral methods for solving differential equations\, “[t]he virtues of the Fast Fourier Transform will continue to improve as the relentless march to larger and larger [bandwidths] continues” [1\, pg. 194]. This talk will discuss attempts to further the virtue of the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) as not only bandwidth is pushed to its limits\, but also the dimension of the problem. Instead of using the traditional FFT however\, we make a key substitution from the sublinear-time compressive sensing literature: a high-dimensional\, sparse Fourier transform (SFT) paired with randomized rank-1 lattice methods. The resulting sparse spectral method rapidly and automatically determines a set of Fourier basis functions whose span is guaranteed to contain an accurate approximation of the solution of a given elliptic PDE. This much smaller\, near-optimal Fourier basis is then used to efficiently solve the given PDE in a runtime which only depends on the PDE’s data/solution compressibility and ellipticity properties\, while breaking the curse of dimensionality and relieving linear dependence on any multiscale structure in the original problem. Theoretical performance of the method is established with convergence analysis in the Sobolev norm for a general class of nonconstant diffusion equations\, as well as pointers to technical extensions of the convergence analysis to more general advection-diffusion-reaction equations. Numerical experiments demonstrate good empirical performance on several multiscale and high-dimensional example problems\, further showcasing the promise of the proposed methods in practice.

DESCRIPTION:Семинар “Анализ\, геометрия и топология”\nВторник\, 29 юли 2025 г.\, 13:00 ч.\, зала 403 на ИМИ – БАН.\n\nSpeaker: Asia Mainenti\, IMI and ICMS\, Sofia\n\nHodge-Riemann balanced structures on non-Kähler manifolds\n\nРезюме:  A Hodge-Riemann balanced structure on a complex manifold is the datum of a balanced metric whose (n-1)-th power can be decomposed into the wedge product of two differential forms\, satisfying the classical Hodge-Riemann bilinear relations. Such structures were introduced by X. Chen and R. Wentworth\, to generalize the nonabelian Hodge correspondence to non-Kähler Hermitian metrics. However\, there are no known examples of Hodge-Riemann balanced structures on non-Kähler manifolds. The aim of this talk is to address this lack of examples\, highlighting the relation with p-Kähler structures and discuss some obstruction results in the class of solvmanifolds. Lastly\, we will present the first example of such a structure on a non-Kähler\, non-compact complex manifold obtained as the product of the Iwasawa manifold by C. This is joint work with A. Fino.

A concircularly semi-symmetric metric connection is a special class of semi-symmetric metric connection when its generator is a concircular vector. In this talk\, we will present results on this connection on pseudo-Riemannian manifolds\, and in particular\, we will observe the application to Lorentzian manifolds and the theory of relativity. We demonstrate that a Lorentzian manifold reduces to a GRW space-time when the generator of the observed connection is a unit timelike vector. At the same time\, the mentioned connection becomes a semi-symmetric metric P-connection. At the end\, we determine the equation of state on a perfect fluid space-time. These are the results of a joint work with prof. Milan Zlatanović published in J. Geom. Костадинов (ИМИ-БАН)\, С. Мишев (НБУ) и А. Стефанов (ФМИ-СУ). \nРезюме: Recently a new approach to the integrable systems\, extending and generalizing the ISM was formulated. It is based on an effective parametrization of the Riemann-Hilbert problem\, which allows one to extend the class of Lax pairs and effectively derive only the corresponding NLEE as compatibility condition of two linear problems. This method is based on the possibility to treat the solution of the RHP as a fundamental analytic solution of the Lax pair\, and then to apply the dressing Zakharov-Shabat method for deriving the soliton solutions of the NLEE. The aim of the present paper is to extend Mikhailov Z5 reduction group to the parametrization of the Z5 RHP. DESCRIPTION:Следващата сбирка на Семинара по приложна математика ще се проведе на 15.10 (сряда) от 15:00 в зала 503 на ИМИ-БАН. \nДоклад на тема \nStochastic scattering control of Walsh’s spider diffusion with optimal diffraction probability measure selected from its own local-time\nще изнесе Исаак Охави\, който работи в обалсти като стохастичен контрол\, стохастична оптимизация и частни диференциални уравнения. \nAbstract: In this talk\, we start by giving a short introduction on “classical” stochastic control theory and its connection with second order nonlinear PDE theory. Then\, we present Walsh’s spider diffusions living on a star-shaped network\, and explain how these processes are at the origin of new problems of stochastic scattering control. A main direction is to focus and understand precisely their behavior and local time at the vertex. Thereafter\, we will give the main ideas\, steps and mathematical directions that I have recently undertaken in order to finally be able to prove existence and weak uniqueness of a spider’s motion having a spinning measure depending on its own local time. \nThe stochastic control problem aims to understand how the spider particle is diffracted at the vertex. The key point is to use the new boundary condition at the junction point\, called: nonlinear local-time Kirchhoff’s boundary condition and the recent advances I have obtained in the analysis of nonlinear partial differential equations in the viscosity framework. \nReferences:  \n–Comparison principle for Walsh’s spider HJB equations with non linear local time Kirchhoff’s boundary transmission. DESCRIPTION:Дата и час: 20.10.2025 г.\, 14:00 ч.\nМясто: Зала 578\, ИМИ – БАН \nЗаглавие на доклада: \nThe complete intersection discrepancy of curves\nДокладчик: Andrei Bengus-Lasnier (ИМИ – БАН) \nРезюме: In this talk I will introduce an invariant for reduced curves called the complete intersection discrepancy (cid for short). This numerical quantity arose naturally when trying to generalize known formulas for complete intersection curves to general curves. The cid then serves as a correction term in these formulas. \nI will present some of the cid’s basic properties and derive two formulas. The first relates basic invariants such as Milnor number\, its multiplicity and the multiplicity of its Jacobian ideal\, and generalizes a well-known result in singularity theory due to Lê\, Greuel and Teissier. The second formula is a generalization of the genus-degree formula for projective curves.\n\nThis work is in collaboration with Antoni Rangachev and Terence Gaffney.

(вторник) от 14:00 в ИМИ-БАН\, Зала 503. \nДокладчик: Хелмут Питърс (Манхайм\, Германия) \nЗаглавие: The number of cycles in a random permutation and the number of segregating sites jointly converge to the Brownian sheet \nРезюме: Consider a random permutation of {1\, …\, ⌊nᵗ²⌋} drawn according to the Ewens measure with parameter t₁\, and let K(n\, t) denote the number of its cycles\, where t ≡ (t₁\, t₂) ∈ [0\, 1]². Next\, consider a sample drawn from a large\, neutral population of haploid individuals subject to mutation under the infinitely many sites model of Kimura\, whose genealogy is governed by Kingman’s coalescent. Let S(n\, t) count the number of segregating sites in a sample of size ⌊nᵗ²⌋ when mutations arrive at rate t₁/2. Our main result comprises two different couplings of the above models for all parameters n ≥ 2 and t ∈ [0\, 1]²\, such that in both couplings one has weak convergence of processes as n → ∞ to a one-dimensional Brownian sheet. This generalizes and unifies a number of well-known results. \n
