SUMMARY:National Seminar on Probability and Statistics
DESCRIPTION:The next meeting of the \nNational Seminar on Probability and Statistics\n \nwill be held on April 21\, 2026\, at 2:00 p.m. in Room 503 of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics. \nA talk on: \nHow long does it take to train an Elephant Random Walk\nwill be delivered by \nZheng Fang (University of Zurich). \nAbstract: We study how conditioning on the first \(k\) steps\, which we think of as training\, affects the long-term behavior of the Elephant Random Walk. When the elephant is conditioned to be at position \(k\) at time \(k\)\, the first return time to the origin scales as \(k^{(4−4p)⁄(3−4p)}\) in the diffusive regime\, and grows exponentially in the critical regime. We loosely interpret this as a measurement of the rate at which the elephant forgets its training. \nMore information about the talk can be found on the seminar website:\nhttp://www.math.bas.bg/~statlab/NSPS/

SUMMARY:Algebra and Logic Seminar
DESCRIPTION:The next meeting of the Algebra and Logic Seminar will take place on April 3\, 2026 (Friday) at 1:00 pm (UTC+3) in online format via Zoom. \nA talk on: \nOn Pairs of Non-commuting Hermitian Operators on the Unitary Plane which are Permutable Measurements\nwill be delivered by \nValentin Iliev (IMI-BAS).\nAbstract. In this presentation we study observables with spectre {-1\,1} on quantum systems with the unitary plane as a space of states. Examples of such quantum systems are spin-1/2 particles. We find necessary and sufficient conditions for two non-commuting observables to be permutable measurements\, that is\, the probability of obtaining a particular pair of results does not depend on the order of taking these measurements. Several examples are presented. \nLink to the zoom meeting:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/88300991142?pwd=wGYl7VaD9RZKEm99sKzHMzl3bYCv3J.1\nEverybody is invited. \nAlgebra and Logic Department\, IMI – BAS\nhttp://www.math.bas.bg/algebra/seminarAiL/\n============================== =====================

SUMMARY:Seminar of the SofTIS Department
DESCRIPTION:You are welcome to join the Scientific seminar of the Dept. Software Technologies and Information Systems on 31st March 2026\, Tuesday\, from 14.00 (UTC+02). The seminar will be in hybrid format: in 278 hall in the building of IMI-BAS and via ZOOM.  Assist.  Ventsislav Polimenov will give a talk\, entitled: “ANNSIA – Adaptive Neural Network for Satellite Image Analysis“. The talk will show an innovative approach to leaf area index estimation using a multi-sensor deep neural network that combines Sentinel-2 and Landsat 8/9 data. The study addresses two primary challenges\, namely the absence of in-situ data for training and the substantial differences in spatial and spectral characteristics between the sensors. The model employs a Multi-Sensor U-Net with Conditional Batch Normalisation\, enabling unified processing of heterogeneous sensor inputs and the learning of sensor-agnostic vegetation representations. Training is conducted through a VI-ensemble approach that generates pseudo-LAI labels without requiring field measurements. Data balancing strategies and spatial block validation ensure reliable assessment of model accuracy and generalisation capacity. The results are presented in lecturer`s PhD thesis (to be defended) and demonstrate improved model performance when leveraging information from both satellites\, as well as successful transfer to new geographic regions and time periods. This constitutes a contribution to the still underexplored field of multi-sensor remote sensing and establishes a foundation for future extensions to other biophysical variables and the integration of additional satellite data sources.

Coxeter and John Conway\, are arrays of numbers satisfying a simple local determinant rule. Despite their elementary definition\, they have deep connections with combinatorics\, cluster algebras\, and representation theory. In this talk\, I will briefly review classical frieze patterns and then discuss infinite friezes. SUMMARY:ICMS Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Two lectures by Milen Yakimov\,\nchair of the group on Cluster Algebras and Quantum Groups at the ICMS\, IMI-BAS.\n\nTuesday\, March 10\, at 13:00 in room 403\, IMI-BAS.\nCluster structures on quantum groups and the full Berenstein-Zelevinsky conjecture\n\nTuesday\, March 17\, at 13:00 in room 403\, IMI-BAS.\nReflective centres of module categories and quantum K-matrices\n\nAbstracts:\nMarch 10: Cluster Algebras were invented by Fomin and Zelevinsky in the early 2000s and quickly turned into an indispensable tool in many areas of mathematics. In this talk\, we will provide a gentle introduction to the subject. From the early days of the theory of cluster algebras\, one of the desired constructions was to turn the quantized coordinate rings of complex simple Lie groups into quantum cluster algebras. This remained elusive. We will present a resolution of this conjecture and of the Berenstein-Zelevinsky conjecture on cluster structures on quantum double Bruhat cells. This is a joint work with Fan Qin and Hironori Oya.\n\nMarch 17: Braided monoidal categories have applications in various situations. In particular\, their universal R-matrices give solutions of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation and representations of braid groups of type A. There are powerful methods for constructing them: Drinfeld doubles of Hopf algebras and Drinfeld centres of monoidal categories. On the other hand\, universal K-matrices\, leading to solutions of the reflection equation and representations of braid groups of type B are much less well understood and there are no general constructions for them. We will describe a construction of reflective centers of module categories. It gives rise to a quantum double construction for universal K-matrices\, which can be viewed as a type B analog of Drinfeld’s double construction. This is a joint work with Robert Laugwitz and Chelsea Walton.\n\nMore information can be found on the seminar’s web-page:\nhttps://icms.bg/category/icms-seminar/

SUMMARY:ICMS Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Time and place: Tuesday\, January 27th\, 2026\, 1:00 pm\, room 403 IMI-BAS. \nLecturer: Jean-Pierre Gazeau (Université Paris Cité\, CNRS\, and University of Białystok) \nTitle: Spectral and angular variables for open qudit dynamics \nAbstract:  In this talk\, I introduce a parametrization of finite-dimensional quantum states that is particularly adapted to the study of open qudit dynamics. Any generic density matrix in Cn can be described by separating spectral variables\, which encode the eigenvalue content\, from angular variables associated with the unitary degrees of freedom. These angular variables naturally live on the coset space SU(n)/T\, in the spirit of the Tilma–Sudarshan construction.\nA key outcome of this parametrization is a partial decoupling of the GKLS evolution: while the angular variables are driven by both the Hamiltonian and the dissipative contributions\, the spectral variables evolve under the dissipative part only. This separation provides a transparent geometric picture of decoherence and dissipation. Simple examples for qubits and qutrits are discussed\, together with an alternative\, geometrically motivated notion of purity expressed solely in terms of the spectral variables in a linear way. \nMore information can be found on the seminar’s web-page:\nhttps://icms.bg/category/icms-seminar/

SUMMARY:ICMS Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Time and place: Tuesday\, January 20th\, 2026\, 1:00 pm\, room 403 IMI-BAS. \nLecturer: Bogdan Đorđević (Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences) \nTitle: Applications of Banach algebras and Banach modules to some contemporary analysis problems \nAbstract:\nIn recent years applied mathematics has experienced a historical progress\, blurring the lines between the previously clear research paths and directions. Accordingly\, contemporary mathematical analysis is at the verge of unifying seemingly different research areas and topics. With this in mind\, I’d like to talk about my humble contribution to this cause: my lecture will concern how Banach algebras and modules\, combined with spectral theory\, functional calculus\, and generalized inverses\, help in various problems that emerge in applied mathematics in general: from solving operator and matrix equations\, to evaluating sums of some Banach-space-valued series\, to analyzing some unstable abstract Cauchy problems\, and finally to approximating solutions to functional stochastic differential equations. \nMore information can be found on the seminar’s web-page:\nhttps://icms.bg/category/icms-seminar/

SUMMARY:Singularities Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Time and place: January 12\, 2026\, Monday\, at 2:00 pm\, in Room 578\, Institute of Mathematics and Informatics – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences\nLecturer:  Valdemar Tsanov (IMI-BAS)\nTitle: Geometry of Milnor fibrations of equivariant plane curves\nAbstract: The local knot of an irreducible C*-equivariant complex plane curve singularity is a torus knot\, and the Milnor fiber is a Seifert surface for this knot. I will describe an explicit universal cover of the Milnor fiber by the hyperbolic plane\, using automorphic forms for triangle groups. The characteristic morphism of the Milnor fibration can also be recovered\, and used to construct geometric structures by universal covers on the knot complement in the 3-sphere\, as well as on the complement of the singular curve in the complex plane.

SUMMARY:International Conference on Quantum Groups and Cluster Algebras
DESCRIPTION:The International Center for Mathematical Sciences – Sofia (ICMS-Sofia) hosts an international conference on \nQuantum Groups and Cluster Algebras \nbetween 15-19 December 2025 at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics\, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. \nThe aim of this conference is to bring together researchers to share recent advances\, promote further developments in the theory of Quantum Groups and Cluster Algebras\, and to investigate their interactions and applications across mathematics and physics. Quantum groups and cluster algebras both provide frameworks for encoding algebraic and geometric structures arising in representation theory\, geometry\, and mathematical physics. Quantum groups\, as deformations of universal enveloping algebras\, capture generalized symmetries with rich categorical and representation-theoretic properties. On the other hand\, Cluster algebras\, introduced by Fomin and Zelevinsky\, appear as important algebraic varieties and reveal properties of them through combinatorial rules. Cluster algebras are essential in the study of canonical bases in diverse settings. \nTo see the Programme and for further information please visit:\nhttps://icms.bg/international-conference-quantum-groups-and-cluster-algebras-2025/

SUMMARY:Applied Mathematics Seminar
DESCRIPTION:The next meeting of the Applied Mathematics Seminar will be held on December 10 (Wednesday) at 3:00 PM in room 503 of IMI-BAS. \nLecturer: Giuseppe D’Onofrio (Politecnico di Torino\, Италия) \nTitle: ADDITIVE SUBORDINATION OF MULTIPARAMETER MARKOV PROCESSES \nAbstract: In this talk\, we consider multiparameter multidimensional Markov processes that are time-changed by an independent additive subordinator\, obtained from a Lévy process by relaxing the condition of stationary increments. By extending Phillips theorem\, we show that the resulting process is a Feller evolution and we characterize its generator. We further derive its pseudo-differential representation and show that its symbol admits a Lévy-Khintchine representation. As an application\, we consider a factor-based specification for the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process subordinated by a Sato process. The constructive nature of this process is inspired by applications in finance which will be briefly discussed.

SUMMARY:Seminar in Operations Research\, Probability and Statistics
DESCRIPTION:On December 09\, 2025 (Tuesday) at 14:15 in room 503 of IMI-BAS and online via Zoom Dr. Sebastian Tapia Garcia\, research unit Variational Analysis\, Dynamics and Operations Research\, Vienna University of Technology\nwill give a talk at the Operations Research\, Probability and Statistics Seminar on: \nDifferentiable functions with surjective generalized Jacobians.\nAbstract: In this talk we start with a brief discussion about the possible values that the limiting and Clarke Jacobians can take in the class of differentiable locally Lipschitz functions (defined on finite dimensional spaces). Then\, we construct a differentiable locally Lipschitz function \(f:R^n\to R^m\) such that\, for any nonempty compact connected \(C \subset R^{n х m}\)\, we can find a point \(x\) in \(R^n\) such that \(C\) coincides with the limiting Jacobian of \(f\) at \(x\). In particular\, the Clarke Jacobian of \(f\) ranges all its possible values. \nThis work has been done in collaboration with Aris Daniilidis and Robert Deville. \nThe Zoom link is\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82516739771?pwd=bwANwCbtbc7nRDAOjo0HuoyarUauAS.1 \nEveryone interested in the topic is cordially invited to participate.
