DESCRIPTION:На 10 октомври 2025 г. (петък) от 13:00 часа в зала 578 на ИМИ-БАН и онлайн чрез платформата zoom ще се проведе съвместно заседание на семинара по Алгебра и логика и на семинара на секция “Диференциални уравнения и математическа физика”. \nДоклад на тема \nOn Z5 reduction of soliton equations related to sl(5) algebra\n ще изнесе \nВладимир Герджиков (ИМИ-БАН)\, \nсъвместна работа с Б. Костадинов (ИМИ-БАН)\, С. Мишев (НБУ) и А. Стефанов (ФМИ-СУ). \nРезюме: Recently a new approach to the integrable systems\, extending and generalizing the ISM was formulated. It is based on an effective parametrization of the Riemann-Hilbert problem\, which allows one to extend the class of Lax pairs and effectively derive only the corresponding NLEE as compatibility condition of two linear problems. This method is based on the possibility to treat the solution of the RHP as a fundamental analytic solution of the Lax pair\, and then to apply the dressing Zakharov-Shabat method for deriving the soliton solutions of the NLEE. The aim of the present paper is to extend Mikhailov Z5 reduction group to the parametrization of the Z5 RHP. DESCRIPTION:Следващата сбирка на Семинара по приложна математика ще се проведе на 15.10 (сряда) от 15:00 в зала 503 на ИМИ-БАН. \nДоклад на тема \nStochastic scattering control of Walsh’s spider diffusion with optimal diffraction probability measure selected from its own local-time\nще изнесе Исаак Охави\, който работи в обалсти като стохастичен контрол\, стохастична оптимизация и частни диференциални уравнения. \nAbstract: In this talk\, we start by giving a short introduction on “classical” stochastic control theory and its connection with second order nonlinear PDE theory. Then\, we present Walsh’s spider diffusions living on a star-shaped network\, and explain how these processes are at the origin of new problems of stochastic scattering control. A main direction is to focus and understand precisely their behavior and local time at the vertex. Thereafter\, we will give the main ideas\, steps and mathematical directions that I have recently undertaken in order to finally be able to prove existence and weak uniqueness of a spider’s motion having a spinning measure depending on its own local time. \nThe stochastic control problem aims to understand how the spider particle is diffracted at the vertex. The key point is to use the new boundary condition at the junction point\, called: nonlinear local-time Kirchhoff’s boundary condition and the recent advances I have obtained in the analysis of nonlinear partial differential equations in the viscosity framework. \nReferences:  \n–Comparison principle for Walsh’s spider HJB equations with non linear local time Kirchhoff’s boundary transmission. DESCRIPTION:Дата и час: 20.10.2025 г.\, 14:00 ч.\nМясто: Зала 578\, ИМИ – БАН \nЗаглавие на доклада: \nThe complete intersection discrepancy of curves\nДокладчик: Andrei Bengus-Lasnier (ИМИ – БАН) \nРезюме: In this talk I will introduce an invariant for reduced curves called the complete intersection discrepancy (cid for short). This numerical quantity arose naturally when trying to generalize known formulas for complete intersection curves to general curves. The cid then serves as a correction term in these formulas. \nI will present some of the cid’s basic properties and derive two formulas. The first relates basic invariants such as Milnor number\, its multiplicity and the multiplicity of its Jacobian ideal\, and generalizes a well-known result in singularity theory due to Lê\, Greuel and Teissier. The second formula is a generalization of the genus-degree formula for projective curves.\n\nThis work is in collaboration with Antoni Rangachev and Terence Gaffney.

DESCRIPTION:Семинар на МЦМН \nВторник\, 4.11.2025\, 13:00 ч.\, Зала 403\, ИМИ – БАН \nЛектор: Leonardo Cavenaghi (МЦМН\, ИМИ – БАН) \nТема на доклада: Exotic phenomena in topology and geometry \n  \nРезюме: This talk\, aimed at a general audience of mathematicians\, discusses very geometric models of exotic spheres. \nExotic spheres are manifolds homeomorphic to classical spheres but not diffeomorphic to them. We will outline some constructions via group actions and discuss their admissible geometries. For instance\, until this day\, it is not known whether an exotic sphere admits a metric of positive sectional curvature\, but some do not even admit positive scalar curvature. \nIn this talk\, we also outline how one can indirectly study their geometries\, aiming to gain a better understanding of their admissible geometries\, for example\, regarding the existence of Lorentzian metrics and the spectral problem. \n

DESCRIPTION:На 10 ноември 2025 г. в Института по математика и информатика на БАН ще се проведе събитието Atanasoff Memorial Day – нова инициатива на Института по математика и информатика при Българската академия на науките и Международния център по математически науки (МЦМН-София) към ИМИ-БАН. Амбицията на организаторите е събитието да се провежда всяка година като по този начин се чества паметта на Джон Винсънт Атанасов (1903–1995) – компютърен пионер\, изобретател на модел на електронен цифров компютър и прославен като „Българинът – баща на електронния компютър“\, като се отбележи пресечната точка на математиката\, компютърните изчисления и науките за сложността – областите\, които обединяват топологията\, геометрията и машинното обучение през 21. век и свързват интелектуалното наследство на България със световните научни върхове в областта на математиката и изчисленията. \nВсяка година\, в програмата на Atanasoff Memorial Day ще се провежда серия от лекции – Atanasoff Memorial Lecture Series. (вторник) от 14:00 в ИМИ-БАН\, Зала 503. \nДокладчик: Хелмут Питърс (Манхайм\, Германия) \nЗаглавие: The number of cycles in a random permutation and the number of segregating sites jointly converge to the Brownian sheet \nРезюме: Consider a random permutation of {1\, …\, ⌊nᵗ²⌋} drawn according to the Ewens measure with parameter t₁\, and let K(n\, t) denote the number of its cycles\, where t ≡ (t₁\, t₂) ∈ [0\, 1]². Next\, consider a sample drawn from a large\, neutral population of haploid individuals subject to mutation under the infinitely many sites model of Kimura\, whose genealogy is governed by Kingman’s coalescent. Let S(n\, t) count the number of segregating sites in a sample of size ⌊nᵗ²⌋ when mutations arrive at rate t₁/2. Our main result comprises two different couplings of the above models for all parameters n ≥ 2 and t ∈ [0\, 1]²\, such that in both couplings one has weak convergence of processes as n → ∞ to a one-dimensional Brownian sheet. This generalizes and unifies a number of well-known results. \n

The program is as follows.\n\nTuesday\, November 18\, room 403\, IMI-BAS.\n\n13:00 — Giovane Galindo (ICMS\, IMI-BAS)\nBundle-type sub-Riemannian structures on holonomy bundles\n\n14:00 — Pablo Portilla Cuadrado (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid)\nThe medial axis of the Milnor fiber\n\nAbstract (Galindo): In this talk we present the notion of Gromov-Hausdorff distance\, a novel field of study that aims to understand the topology of the moduli space of Riemannian metrics on a given manifold. We will then present new results on the subject concerning the collapse of principal bundles onto reductive homogeneous spaces.\n\nAbstract (Cuadrado): Let f(x\,y) define an isolated singularity at the origin. In this talk we explore a new flat metric induced on the Milnor fiber of f by the associated complex Hamiltonian vector field. With the help of this metric we can define a spine on each Milnor fiber via the classical method of the medial axis. This spine depends on the choice of boundary for the Milnor fiber. It is subanalytic and comes equipped with a retraction from the boundary onto it. We hope to understand the geometry of the versal unfolding space via these spines. This ongoing joint work with Norbert A’Campo.

(сряда)  от 16:15 часа в Заседателната зала на ИМИ – БАН. Доклад на тема:\n\nИнтерполационна задача на Биркхоф: стари и нови резултати\nще изнесе проф. д.н. Гено Николов\,\nФакултет по матем​атика и информатика\, Софийски университет „Св. Климент Охридски“. \n\n\n\nРезюме. През 1906 г. американският математик Джордж Дейвид Биркхоф формулира една задача за интерполиране с алгебрични полиноми. Тази задача се задава с матрици на инцидентност и включва като частни случаи класическите интерполационни задачи на Лагранж и Ермит. За разлика от тях\, общата интерполационна задача на Биркхоф не винаги е разрешима. Въпреки че е изследван от много и изтъкнати математици\, проблемът за характеризацията на регулярните матрици на инцидентност (т.е.\, задаващи интерполационна задача на Биркхоф с единствено решение) към днешна дата стои открит.В доклада си ще разкажа за някои получени напоследък класове от регулярни матрици на инцидентност и ще припомня някои не толкова известни по-стари резултати касаещи Биркхофската интерполация.

DESCRIPTION:Поредната сбирка на семинара на секция\n\nМатематическо моделиране и числен анализ\n\nще се състои на 24.11.2025 г.\, понеделник\, от 14:00 часа в зала 503 на Института по математика и информатика.\n\nДоклад на тема\n \nModelling financial crisis propagation as an epidemic on multiplex networks\n\nще изнесе\n\nд-р Малвина Божидарова (Russell Group Limited)\n\nРезюме: We propose a novel framework for modelling the spread of financial crises in complex networks\, combining financial data\, Extreme Value Theory and an epidemiological transmission model. We accommodate two key aspects of contagion modelling: fundamentals-based contagion\, where the transmission is due to direct financial linkages\, and pure contagion\, where a crisis might trigger additional crises due to global effects. We use stock price\, geographical location and economic sector data for a set of companies to construct multiplex networks of four layers\, on which a Susceptible-Infected-Recovered transmission model is defined\, in order to model the spread of financial shocks between companies by accounting for their interconnected nature. By utilizing stock price data for the 2008 and 2020 financial crises\, we investigate and assess the effectiveness of our model in forecasting the propagation of financial shocks through the network\, where a shock is detected by measuring stock price volatility. The results suggest that the proposed framework is effective in predicting the spread of financial crises. Our findings demonstrate the significance of each layer of the multiplex network structure\, which differentiates between various transmission pathways\, for predicting the number of affected companies\, as well as for company-\, sector- or location-specific predictions.

DESCRIPTION:26 ноември 2025 г.\, сряда\, от 16:00 ч. в Зала 403 на ИМИ – БАН. \nСъвместно заседание на Семинара на МЦМН и Семинара на секция Математически основи на информатиката \nFrank Vallentin (Universität zu Köln) \nLeast distortion Euclidean embeddings of flat tori\nРезюме: In the emerging field of bi-Lipschitz invariant theory\, one studies embeddings of orbit spaces H/G (H a Hilbert space\, G a subgroup of its automorphisms) into simpler Hilbert spaces via distance-preserving maps up to a constant factor. \n\nIn this talk\, I present an infinite-dimensional semidefinite program that computes least-distortion embeddings of flat tori Rn/L\, where L is an n-dimensional lattice\, into Hilbert spaces. Using symmetry reduction techniques\, this infinite-dimensional semidefinite program reduces to an infinite-dimensional linear program. \nEven with this simplification\, solving the program remains challenging. Програмата е следната.\n\nICMS Seminar and AGT Seminar\n\nTuesday\, December 2nd\, room 403 IMI-BAS. \n\n\n13:00 — Roy Magen (ICMS\, IMI-BAS) \n\n Flavours of homotopy theory \n\n\n14:00 — Liviu Ornea (University of Bucarest) \n\n Distinguished non-Kähler metrics on compact complex manifolds \n\nAbstract (Magen): \n   In this talk we will consider different flavours of homotopy theory for different types of geometric contexts. First we will recall the usual definitions of the homotopy category\, and equivariant homotopy categories\, and we will show how we can think of these in terms of (equivariant) smooth manifolds. This will give us a suitable framework with which to adapt the notion of homotopy theory to different geometries.\nWe first use this framework to give a brief overview of the story in algebraic geometry\, which produces motivic homotopy theory. Next\, we will use our framework to discuss notions of homotopy theories parametrized by a geometric object\, and discuss some consequences.\nDepending on time constraints and interest\, we will end either by discussing work relating this homotopical framework to 6-functor formalisms\, by going over a version of this story in the complex analytic setting\, or by introducing C∞-schemes and discussing possibilities for an extension of the story for manifolds to this setting. \nAbstract (Ornea):\n\n   I shall review the definitions of LCK\, pluriclosed and balanced metrics and discuss their incompatibility on the same compact complex manifold.
