DESCRIPTION:Поредната сбирка на СЕМИНАРА на секция \n“Математическо моделиране и числен анализ”  \nще се състои на  23.04.2025 г. (сряда) от 14:00 часа в зала 478 на ИМИ – БАН. \nДоклад на тема: \nMultiscale Leading Edge and Bulk Dynamics for Tumour Invasion in Fibrous Environment\nще изнесе Dr. Dumitru Trucu (University of Dundee\, Шотландия). \nРезюме: Despite all recent in vivo\, in vitro\, and in silico advances\, the understanding of the genuine biologically multiscale process of solid tumour invasion remains one of the greatest open questions for scientific community. In this talk we present novel mathematical multiscale moving boundary modelling and structural analytical approaches for tumour invasion. Specifically\, we focus on characterising mathematically key aspects of the dynamic interactions that the migratory cancer cells population and the accompanying matrix degrading enzymes (MDEs) have with the extracellular matrix (ECM) components\, and in particular with the ECM fibres. These are complex interactions enabled by a series of integrated multiscale systems\, which are at least two-scale in nature and share (and contribute to) the same tumour macro-dynamics (i.e.\, tissue-scale dynamics) but have independent-in-nature micro-dynamics (i.e.\, cell-scale dynamics). For instance\, on the bulk of the tumour\, of major interest is the dynamics of fibres degradation and structural realignment occurring at micro-scale as well as the immediate impact that this continuously changing field of oriented ECM fibres has over the tumour macro-dynamics. On the other hand\, the cell-scale proteolytic micro-dynamics occurring at the tumour invasive edge interacts with the peritumoural ECM fibres through the molecular fluxes of MDEs. This interfacial cell-scale interaction not only results in changes in the micro-scale structural distribution of peritumoural ECM fibres but also influences directly the changes of the overall tumour morphology. \nThe new mathematical multiscale modelling framework presented here aims to address the precise biological multiscale nature of these interactions between the cancer cell population and the surrounding fibrous environment during solid tumour invasion. This involves an appropriately derived novel 2D & 3D multiscale moving boundary modelling framework as well as state-of-the-art multiscale computational approaches. Furthermore\, this research paves the way for new multiscale analysis research avenues that builds on the novel concept of three-scale convergence that I established and introduced a while ago.\n

Irreducibility problem of the restricted Hilbert scheme of curves. \n2. Some easy examples of reducible Hilbert schemes inside or outside the Brill-Noether range. \n3. DESCRIPTION:Съвместна сбирка на семинара на МЦМН и семинара “Алгебра и Логика” в ИМИ\, София\, ще се проведе идния вторник\, с доклад на Георги Томанов\, както следва.\n\nВторник\, 29-ти април\, 14:00 часа\, зала 403 на ИМИ-БАН.\nГеорги Томанов\, Université Claude Bernard\, Lyon 1.\nGroup action on homogeneous spaces and applications in number theory\n\nAbstract: Many longstanding conjectures and problems in number theory can be reformulated in terms of group actions on homogeneous spaces. This reformulation allows them to be tackled using\, alongside deep methods from algebra and algebraic geometry\, powerful tools from ergodic theory and dynamical systems. An example of the effectiveness of this approach is Margulis’s groundbreaking proof of the Oppenheim conjecture (formulated in 1929) concerning the values of quadratic forms at integer points. \nIn this talk\, aimed at a general audience\, we will describe recent results on the characterization of norm forms—a classical object in algebraic number theory—in terms of their values at integer points. These results answer natural questions and are related to still-open conjectures of Littlewood (from 1930) and of Cassels and Swinnerton-Dyer (from 1955). (вторник) от 14:00 ч. в зала 403 на ИМИ – БАН. \nДокладчик: Milan Zlatanovic (University of Niš) \nДоклад: Non-symmetric gravitational theorys \nРезюме: We will consider a connection with totally skew-symmetric torsion on non-symmetric (semi-) Riemann manifolds that satisfy Einstein’s metric condition (EMC). We proved that an almost Hermitian manifold is a non-symmetric Riemann manifold that satisfies EMC if and only if it is a Nearly Kahler manifold. We will also show what happens in the case of para Hermitian manifold\, contact\, and para-contact manifolds that satisfy EMC. We show that a connection with skew symmetric torsion satisfying EMC exists on an almost contact metric manifolds when it is D-homothetic to a cosymplectic manifold. We proved the structure theorem for the new class of almost contact metric manifold and special attention we have focused on dimension 5. DESCRIPTION:Встъпителната лекция на доцент Михаил Школников в секция Анализ\, геометрия и топология на ИМИ-БАН ще се проведе на 13.05.2025 г. (вторник) от 15:15 ч. в зала 403 на ИМИ – БАН. \nДокладчик: Михаил Школников (ИМИ – БАН) \nДоклад: Introduction to amoebas and tropicalization \nРезюме: We will start by reviewing the most classical aspects of the theory of amoebas deeply rooted in complex analysis and geometry. Next\, we will pass to the notion of a tropical limit of amoebas\, and will see how restoring the phase allows to recover topology and deduce intersection-theoretic results. After that\, we will discuss some results (and their limitations) obtained with Grigory Mikhalkin in the context of non-commutative versions of amoebas of surfaces and tropical limits of curves inside the special matrix group SL(2\,C). I will conclude by sketching a proof of the complete description of possible tropicalizations of families of analytic surfaces in SL(2\,C) recently obtained with Peter Petrov\, in particular\, motivating our ongoing project on the non-commutative phase tropicalization\, a few words about which will be said if time permits. \n  \n

The theorem GS was studied in an article by Katie Brodhead\, Mushfeq Khan\, Bjørn Kjos-Hanssen\, William A. Lampe\, Paul Kim Long V. Nguyen\, and Richard A. Shore\, where they establish the provability of GS in Π11 Comprehension (Π11-CA0) and its restrictive variant GSD in arithmetical comprehension (ACA0). It will be shown that the arithmetical transfinite recursion (ATR0) is sufficient to prove GS. Additionally\, other variants of GS will be explored as well. Some will be proved in ACA0\, while others will be shown equivalent to ATR0 over ACA0. It is defined by a contour integral of the appropriate ratio of gamma products (sometimes reducible to the inverse Mellin transform). Replacing the Euler gamma function by the Barnes double gamma function in this contour integral\, we introduce a new family of special functions which we call Mellin-Barnes’ K function. It is a quite general family which contains Meijer’s G function (thus also all classical hypergeometric functions pFq)\, as well as several new functions that appeared recently in the study of random processes and the fractional fenomena. For example\, the running supremum of an alpha-stable Levy process has density expressible by K function as well as does the exponential functionals of the hypergeometric process. In the talk\, we will discuss the definition of the new function\, its basic analytic and transformation properties and relations to the functions found in the literature. We further define a generalization of the Kilbas-Saigo function introduced earlier to solve in closed form certain classes of integral and differential equations of fractional order and observe that both the original and the generalized Kilbas-Saigo functions are special cases of our new function. \nThe talk is based on a joint work with Alexey Kuznetsov (York University\, Toronto\, Canada). \n

(петък) от 12:30 часа в зала 578 на ИМИ\nи онлайн чрез платформата zoom ще се проведе хибридно заседание на семинара по „Алгебра и логика”. \nДоклад на тема: \nHolographic probe branes and artificial neural networks\nще изнесе \nВеселин Филев (ИМИ-БАН).\nРезюме: In holography\, flavour probe branes are used to introduce fundamental matter to the AdS/CFT correspondence. At a technical level\, the probes are described by extremizing the DBI action and solving the Lagrange–Euler equations of motion. I will report on applications of artificial neural networks that allow direct minimization of the regularized DBI action (interpreted as a free energy) without the need to derive and solve the equations of motion. DESCRIPTION:BIOMATH 2025\nInternational Conference on Mathematical Methods and Models in Biosciences and a School for Young Scientists\,\n15 – 20 June 2025\, Sofia\, Bulgaria\nThe annual international conference on Mathematical Methods and Models in Biosciences (Biomath) will take place from 15 to 20 June 2025 at the campus of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (IMI) and the Institute of Mechanics. Biomath 2025 is devoted to recent research in life sciences based on applications of mathematics as well as mathematics applied to or motivated by biological studies. It is a multidisciplinary meeting forum for researchers who develop and apply mathematical and computational tools to the study of phenomena in the broad fields of biology\, ecology\, medicine\, biophysics\, biochemistry\, pharmacokinetics\, chemoinformatics\, biotechnology\, bioengineering\, environmental science\, etc. \nThe conference continues a tradition of scientific meetings on Biomathematics since 1995 (see Biomath Conference Series). It is supported by several research units of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (such as the Institutes of Mathematics and Informatics\, Information and Communication Technologies\, Microbiology\, Molecular Biology\, Mechanics\, Neurobiology\, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research\, etc.) and several Universities (Sofia University “Kl. Ohridski”\, Plovdiv University “Paisii Hilendarski”\, South-West University “N. Rilski”)\, as well as the  Union of the Bulgarian Mathematicians and the Biomath Forum. International partners of the Biomath series of conferences are the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and the  DST/NRF SARChI Chair on Mathematical Models and Methods in Bioengineering and Biosciences at the University of Pretoria\, and the  Institute of Applied Mathematics at the University of Warsaw. \nBiomath School for Young Scientists\nThe school comprises plenary lectures and sessions for contributed talks. The lectures at the school are of more introductory nature giving foundations and insight into the respective topic rather then focusing on new results and are presented by some of the keynote speakers of the conference. Лятна изследователска школа по математика и информатика (ЛИШ’25). Тя е организирана от Ученическия институт по математика и информатика (УчИМИ) и тази година ще отбележи своето двадесет и пето издание. \nУчИМИ е учреден през 2000 г. и оттогава неизменно подкрепя ученици с изявени интереси в областта на математиката\, информатиката и информационните технологии в техните първи стъпки в науката. ЛИШ е школа\, която съчетава най-добрите практики от водещи програми за изследователска работа на ученици от средното училище\, като RSI (престижна международна школа\, която се провежда в MIT)\, с уникалните възможности на една динамична среда за обучение.

DESCRIPTION:На 15 юли 2025 г. от 13:00 часа в зала 403 на ИМИ-БАН ще се проведе съвместно заседание на Общия семинар на секция “Анализ\, геометрия и топология” и Международния център по математически науки (ICMS-Sofia). \nДоклад на тема: \nWeak Metric Structures on Generalized Riemannian Manifolds\nще изнесе Milan Zlatanovic\, University of Niš\, Serbia. \nРезюме. Linear connections with torsion are important in the study of generalized Riemannian manifolds (\(M\)\, \(G=g+F\))\, where the symmetric part \(g\) of \(G\) is a non-degenerate (0\,2)-tensor and \(F\) is the skew-symmetric part. Some space-time models in theoretical physics are based on \((M\, G=g+F)\)\, where \(F\) is defined using a complex structure. In the lecture\, we will show more general models\, where \(F\) has constant rank and is based on weak metric structures (introduced by the V. Rovenski and R. Wolak)\, which generalize almost contact and \(f\)-contact structures. We consider metric connections (i.e.\, preserving \(G\)) with totally skew-symmetric torsion tensor. For \(\mbox{rank}(F)= \mbox{dim} M\) and non-conformal tensor \(A^2\)\, where \(A\) is a skew-symmetric (1\,1)-tensor adjoint to \(F\)\, we apply weak almost Hermitian structures to fundamental results (by S. Ivanov and M. Zlatanovic) on generalized Riemannian manifolds and prove that the manifold is a weighted product of several nearly Kahler manifolds corresponding to eigen-distributions of \(A^2\). In this talk\, after a brief overview of the basic definitions in hypercomplex Geometry\, we will discuss two of the main types of special metrics in the hypercomplex setting: quaternionic Gauduchon and strong HKT metrics. First of all\, we will discuss sufficient and equivalent conditions for a quaternionic Gauduchon metric to exist.  Afterwards\, we will show that strong HKT and balanced hyperHermitian metrics cannot coexist on a compact non-hyperKähler manifold\, proving a particular instance of the Fino-Vezzoni conjecture. Марк Айуън\nще изнесе доклад на тема: \nSparse Spectral Methods for Solving High-Dimensional and Multiscale Elliptic PDEs\nПроф. Айуън работи в департамента по изчислителна математика в Michigan State University и има широки интереси свързани с обработката на данни и обработката на сигнали. Темата\, която предложи за семинара има някои неочаквани връзки с определени шумозащитни кодове.\nРезюме. In his monograph “Chebyshev and Fourier Spectral Methods”\, John Boyd claimed that\, regarding Fourier spectral methods for solving differential equations\, “[t]he virtues of the Fast Fourier Transform will continue to improve as the relentless march to larger and larger [bandwidths] continues” [1\, pg. 194]. This talk will discuss attempts to further the virtue of the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) as not only bandwidth is pushed to its limits\, but also the dimension of the problem. Instead of using the traditional FFT however\, we make a key substitution from the sublinear-time compressive sensing literature: a high-dimensional\, sparse Fourier transform (SFT) paired with randomized rank-1 lattice methods. The resulting sparse spectral method rapidly and automatically determines a set of Fourier basis functions whose span is guaranteed to contain an accurate approximation of the solution of a given elliptic PDE. This much smaller\, near-optimal Fourier basis is then used to efficiently solve the given PDE in a runtime which only depends on the PDE’s data/solution compressibility and ellipticity properties\, while breaking the curse of dimensionality and relieving linear dependence on any multiscale structure in the original problem. Theoretical performance of the method is established with convergence analysis in the Sobolev norm for a general class of nonconstant diffusion equations\, as well as pointers to technical extensions of the convergence analysis to more general advection-diffusion-reaction equations. Numerical experiments demonstrate good empirical performance on several multiscale and high-dimensional example problems\, further showcasing the promise of the proposed methods in practice.
