First place for the Bulgarian team in The 34th Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (BMO 2017)

 

The 34th Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (BMO 2017) took place from 2 to 7 May 2017 in Ohrid, Macedonia. Bulgarian contestants wonfour gold and two silver medals. In team ranking Bulgaria stands on the first place receiving 226 points (out of 240). 

The remarkable success of the Bulgarian team is the result of the efforts of the contestants, their teachers and leaders. Leaders of the team are all from IMI-BAS - Assoc. Prof. Ivaylo Kortezov, Dr. Dragomir Dragnev, and Prof. Oleg Muskarov. Here are the names of our medalists:

Excellent Results of the Bulgarian team at the All-Russian Mathematics Olympiad

 

The All-Russian Mathematics Olympiad took place from April 24 to 29 in Kaliningrad, Russia. The Bulgarian team once again performed excellently and returned with one gold and four bronze medals, and with a honorary diploma..
The excellent preparation of our competitors is due to their team leaders, Dr. Dragomir Dragnev from the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics - BAS, and and Emil Karlov from Sofia Mathematical School.

16th Summer Research School in Mathematics and Informatics

 

The High School Student Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (HSSIMI) will conduct for sixteenth time the Summer Research School in Mathematics and Informatics (SRS'16). The school will be hosted by the American University in Bulgaria, Blagoevgrad, from July 31st to August 20th, 2016.

SRS'16 will be attended by 50 students from Bulgaria, India, Luxembourg, Macedonia, New Zealand, with special interests in the fields of mathematics, informatics and information technology.

15 years High School Students Institute of Mathematics and Informatics

 

  

On June 4, 2015, immediately after the ceremony for the awarding of the medal winners of the Australian Mathematics Competition, the mathematical talents of Bulgaria, together with their teachers and supporters celebrated the 15th anniversary of the founding of the High School Students Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (HSSI). Organizers of the event were the founders of HSSI - Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Union of Bulgarian Mathematicians, "Evrika" Foundation and "St. Cyril and St. Methodius " International Foundation.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of HSSI Corr. Member Oleg Mushkarov presented the story of HSSI, whose head was in those 15 years. With the presentation Acad. Peter Kenderov, Chairman of UBM, followed the creation and development of the Students Institute.

On behalf of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria greeting was presented by Mrs. Anna-Marie Vilamovska, Secretary of Innovation and Health, in which was expressed admiration for targeted efforts for the development of brilliant young Bulgarian minds and the development of the Bulgarian society.

His Excellency John Griffin awarded the medals to the winners of Australian Mathematics Competition

 

  

On 4 June 2015, at the Great Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was held a solemn awarding of the three Bulgarian medal winners of the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) in 2014. Smart and beautiful winners - Zlatina Mileva, Gergana Sotirova and Denitsa Markova received their medals in person by His Excellency John Griffin - Ambassador of Australia for Bulgaria, who noted that Bulgarian students have won 63 awards for the period from 1992, since the competition takes place in our country. "With so many talented Bulgarians Bulgaria's future is promising," said Ambassador Griffin. The history of Bulgarian participation in the Australian Mathematics Competition was presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivaylo Kortezov, AMC coordinator for Bulgaria.
