Biomath2017 welcomes scientists from the field of biotechnology and bioengineering from around the world

The annual international conference on Mathematical Methods and Models in Biosciences (Biomath 2017) is taking place from 25th to 30th June 2017 at Skukuza Camp in Kruger Park, South Africa, and is hosted by the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and the SARChI Chair on Mathematical Models and Methods in Bioengineering and Biosciences at University of Pretoria.

The conference is coorganized by the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and is devoted to recent research in life sciences based on applications of mathematics as well as mathematics applied to or motivated by biological studies. It is a multidisciplinary meeting forum for researchers who develop and apply mathematical and computational tools to the study of phenomena in the broad fields of biology, ecology, medicine, biotechnology, bioengineering, environmental science, etc.

International Recognition of Our Colleagues Alexander Iliev and Peter Stanchev

At the International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies (CompSysTech'17), which was held on June 23-24 2017 in the University of Rouse, Bulgaria, the paper of Assist. Prof. Dr. Alexander Iliev and Prof. D. Sc. Peter Stanchev, entitled Smart Multifunctional Digital Content Ecosystem Using Emotion Analysis of Voice, was awarded the Best Paper Prize. The paper will be included in the Conference Proceedings which traditionally are published by ACM  Inc. and registered in the US Congress Library. Since 2007, the papers, presented at the conference and published, have been indexed in SCOPUS, dblp, Google Scholar, etc.

Prof. Stanchev has another achievement to be proud of: he is among the top 1% of researchers presented on the Academia portal ( by 30-day views - 111 unique visitors have viewed 217 of his papers.

National Seminar on Coding Theory "Professor Stefan Dodunekov" 2016

From 10 to 13 November in hotel "Seasons", Tryavna, the National Seminar on Coding Theory "Professor Stefan Dodunekov" will be held. Since 2014 onwards seminar is named after acad. Stefan Dodunekov who was a Director of IMI from 1999 to 2012 and Chairman of the Union of Mathematicians in Bulgaria from 2001 to 2012. The National Seminar on Coding Theory was founded in the 80s by acad. Stefan Dodunekov and has since been held annually at the end of the year.
Among the scientific community the research of acad. Stefan Dodunekov on coding theory is well known. It covers a wide range of issues - from the fundamental tasks with importance to abstract algebra and finite geometries to purely practical problems in the field of data protection. Among his most important contributions in the late 70s and early 80s must be noted the solving of the main task of coding theory for binary codes in dimension 7 and 8, the result achieved in fierce competition with famous mathematicians like Ray Hill, Henk van Tilborg, Thor Heleset, Noboru Hamada and others.
